Stop Puppy Biting

Easy Method to Stop Puppy From Biting

Puppy Biting in the early stages is accepted. Your puppy is cute and fluffy and it's what puppies do. But what do you do when your puppy won't stop biting and it starts to get out of hand? How do you stop puppy biting?

Well, most puppies will go through a puppy nipping 'phase' (usually when they are teething) and this is perfectly natural, but it should only be a phase, and with the correct training, you should be able to control your puppy's nipping.

When your puppy was part of a litter, his mother would tell him not to bite, now he is in your pack, you must take the lead and stop puppy from biting.

When your puppy is very young, then the replacement method works best. If your puppy is biting your hand/foot etc, just redirect him to a bone or a toy. Be sure to use the 'No' command when he does it, and then replace your hand with the chosen object. This is a really effective method to stop puppy biting.

This next method is very popular among dog trainers and has a very high success rate.

When your dog plays with his siblings and one gets hurt, they let out a sharp 'yelp'. The playing usually stops and the pups then calm down.

You need to replicate this technique. When your puppy is biting, let out a loud OUCH! Stop puppy biting by pulling yourself away and neglect to play with your puppy for a short while. The OUCH will startle him and he will soon get to know that if he bites, he will lose his playmate. This will definitely stop puppy from biting.
