Puppy Pad Training
How to use Puppy Training Pads correctly
Puppy Pad Training
Puppy potty training pads are a great because they are treated with a special
chemical that actually attracts your puppy to pee on them (unlike regular newspaper).
When you first start to do puppy
pad training, it is a good idea to monitor their feed times.
By keeping to set times, you will be able to gauge when your puppy is due to toilet. As a rule, dogs will need
to relieve themselves usually after meals and naps.
Lay a couple of pads down a good way from their kennel or crate. (Dogs do not
like to soil their sleeping place, so it would encourage them to move to the other side of the room when doing
their business).
Look out for the common 'toileting signs' like whining, sniffing, pacing and
going round in a circle.
When you notice this change in behaviour, place your puppy on the puppy training
pads and give him a command to do his business. The word you use is up to you, just keep it consistent (e.g.
toilet time or potty). Say this every time you place him on the puppy training pads.
Leave them in peace for a couple of minutes. Let them finish their business. When
they have finished, praise your puppy and hive him a treat straight away. Do not delay, they will make the
association then between going to the toilet and a treat.
Keep up this process with the puppy
training pads, and eventually your puppy should use them all on their
own. They will know that the pads are the right place to do their business.
When puppy pad
training, sometimes however, your dog will have an accident for
whatever reason. When they do, remember, don't punish them. If you 'rub your dogs nose in it or smack them,
they will become frightened and this will set back the puppy potty training. Just clean up the mess and make
sure you keep reinforcing all that you have taught your puppy when using the puppy potty training pads.
